Of course, not everyone who works there shares a surname, but the McLachlans think there’s no better way to describe their tight-knit team than “family”. Their commitment to organic farming at their Gibbston, Pisa and Bendigo vineyards means their wines are of the most epic quality, and they also do their bit for animal conservation, too.

What style do you think characterises Central Otago pinot?
Our wines are unique in that they encapsulate the essence of Central Otago across sub regions: Bendigo, Gibbston and Pisa. Bendigo is the warmest site and generates excellent tannin structure and dark forest fruit flavours. Pisa gives us beautiful aromatics, ripe plum and a plush mid palate. Gibbston parcels tend to generate more red fruits such as currant and cherry, with elegant acidity. Each site has a voice and the result is a very balanced pinot noir that can truly express the vintage differences.

1. It is an absolutely stunning part of New Zealand to visit.
2. Adventure sports are a must-do – bungee jumping and zip trekking just to name a few.
3. A young wine region that knows no boundaries, the current generation of wine producers creating cutting edge, world class pinot noir unlike any in the world.
