There’s so much to love about Polperro. A sun-drenched deck, which in summer is full of holiday-makers or weekenders sharing plates of cured salmon or salads from the garden and bottles of rosé, and in winter sees those same folk bundled up under blankets with glasses of Pinot. A chic 80-seat dining room with an open fire and views of the vineyard. And, of course, excellent wines.

The strength of Polperro lies in how it’s managed to nail the relaxed, casual, yet still high quality vibe that eludes so many winery experiences. Most of the time, regardless of how great a winery’s restaurant or cellar door offering is, there’s no escaping the fact you’re in a winery. At Polperro, the wines are almost secondary – they’re there if you want them, but that’s not necessarily why you’re there.

If you do go for the wines, you’ll find bottles from France, Italy, and even the USA, on the list next to those by Polperro and Even Keel (there’s also a list of aperitifs, cocktails, beers and spirits). Tastings of Polperro wines are available at the Cellar Door, and there’s onsite accommodation, too.
