PROPHET'S ROCK // Central Otago, NZ - PINOT PALOOZA Skip to main content

The name Prophet’s Rock is taken from a local landmark at the claim of pioneering goldminer Bob Prophet. It is a name that reflects its new world setting; here, they work on the margins, perched on the edge in the southernmost wine growing region on earth. Their exceptional vineyards are the foundation of their wines, and they’re fanatical about looking after them. The journey starts in the vines, where they grow low yielding fruit with great concentration and flavour, fruit that’s then treated with deference.

What style do you think characterises the pinot of your region?
The wines from Bendigo are a true reflection of place. Our mineral soils, high altitude, north-facing vineyards, dry micro climate and the experienced hands of the winemakers let the wines shine!

Tell us three things we need to know about your region?

  1. High altitude, 220-400 meters above sea level (Prophet’s Rock has some of the highest)
  2. Super hot days and cool nights make it the perfect spot for pinot noir.
  3. All the best wines come from Bendigo 🙂

What’s the one thing we simply must do in your region?
Drink wine!!!

If not you, who else should people try?
Quartz Reef

When no one is watching, you drink…
Potentially sketchy old stuff I made back in the day to see if it’s safe to open for anyone else…

Your pinots are best for…
Making yourself instantly more wind-swept and interesting, articulate and full of interesting opinion… at least in your own eyes.

Your pinots are best paired with…
Good tunes, good company and rustic wood fired food creations up at the vineyard.

What year was your first pinot noir vintage and what song best represents it?
2003 and it was OutKast – Hey Ya!

What are you listening to when you’re drinking pinot?

What song should we listen to when driving to the winery?
